Over three years after I mused about what it is like to still use a Holo Design app in 2018, the final version of K-9 Mail has now been released with a revamped user interface.

K-9 Mail is in my opinion one of the best email clients for Android - not because of the design obviously, but due to it’s enormous amount of features. For a beginner this app is so overwhelming, but once you find out how to use it, it becomes your best friend handling emails from your phone. Especially if you need advanced features like email-aliases and so on.

I have already tried the beta versions over the last few years in daily use. K-9 Mail is still my favorite mail app on Android. In the meantime, I had briefly tried other apps, like FairEmail, but always returned to K-9.

Since the beginning of the year the development is funded by donations via Liberapay and since then there seems to be a faster progress. Since I already support some open source projects there, I’ve now added K-9 Mail to my list as well.
