Hopefully OneUI 4 will extend the life of my smartphone
Last year I wrote about how I check the battery health of my smartphone. The app I used for that shows a notification when a certain charge level is reached that you can unplug the smartphone so it doesn’t charge to 100%.
My smartphone, a 2020 Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite, now got the update to Android 12 and One UI 4 yesterday. With this last major update, a new feature has also been added, which was previously only reserved for tablets: “Protect battery”. This means that the smartphone’s battery is only charged up to 85%, even if the device remains plugged in.
Of course, I immediately activated this new function and have since uninstalled the “AccuBattery” app. I might try it out again in a year to see how good my battery still is then.
The S10 Lite has been my most expensive smartphone purchase to date. I have been using it since September 2020 and hope that it will be the first of my smartphones that I will use for more than 3 years.
