The author of Set of Principles takes part in the “Buy Nothing Project”.

This year, I started a new personal project; a buy nothing project. I heard about it while reading an article from New York Times called It’s Not That Hard to Buy nothing. The idea of buying only essential things may sound strange and unfamiliar, but that’s ok. In our consumerism driven culture, it’s hard to imagine not to purchase anything.

I think that is a very good idea. I also sometimes catch myself giving in to the temptation to buy things because I think I need them, even though that’s not really the case.

I let myself be tempted by the coolness of the thing, or because it seems at first glance that it would help me with something.

And that happens to me, even though I don’t really use social media and try to avoid advertising as much as possible.
