This week’s HWC was nice as always with interesting topics! Especially the topic about sustainable websites was interesting. My VPS provider uses renewable energy and I also try to make my site use as less resources as possible, by using no custom fonts and writing minimal CSS and HTML. Images also get optimized and resized automatically on upload.

I’ve only been using the MX Master 3 and the MX Keys from Logitech for a few days now, but I must say that my favorite feature of the MX Master 3 is definitely the “hyper-fast scrolling”. I don’t know how I got along with a mouse without this feature before. And also the MX Keys is a really awesome keyboard. The typing experience is so good! I definitely have to write a review in a week or two. And maybe try to get back into touch typing

While I develop my new custom CMS, it seems like I neglect the blogging. So here’s a photo from my evening walk. Going for a walk after work helps me to breathe fresh air and get a clear mind. It’s also great to enjoy the last few days of summer.

I watched “The Social Dilemma” on Netflix today. I like the movie! A good movie with a lot of things people from within my bubble probably already know. And a lot of reasons to stay away from (classic) social media.

I’m switching from Backblaze B2 to Scaleway’s Object Storage.

I used to use B2 as a backup destination for my restic backups from various servers. The service is fine, but what drives me away is missing €-billing (and credit cards as the only payment method) and a somewhat slow performance (at least it feels like that). Scaleway asks for twice the price (0,01€ per GB per month) but the first 75GB are free. And my last monthly B2 bill was below 1$ anyway, so it doesn’t really matter. ☺️ Now backing up my 51GB home cloud: 4,5 hours left.

I took inspiration from Ru and finally added a “favorite blogs” section to my blogroll. I also sorted the blogs into English and German, so that someone without knowledge of German can ignore the German blogs.

Ru Singh automated her blogroll too.

In July 2020, Jan automated his blogroll — and this validated the idea in my head. Now, my own blogroll is automated as well!

I think I’m not the first one. If I remember correctly, Jan did this already before.

A key difference is that I have my script mark some feeds as recommended based on their feed IDs from my Miniflux reader. Then, these feeds are shown first as “Recommended Feeds,” followed by all the other feeds in a separate list.

That is a very clever idea! Currently there are 68 blogs in the blogs section on my blogroll, definitely confusing for people searching for the best blogs to follow. Problem: I have to pick a few favorites and that’s a really difficult task.
