Using non-Apple hardware usually has one big advantage: Much better upgradeability.

Even though my laptop isn’t as modifiable as the Framework Laptop (it was a lot cheaper, though), I just upgraded its battery from the 36 watt-hour version to double that, 73 watt-hours. Pretty good for a 14" laptop, I think. Based on past battery performance, this new battery should easily last 10 hours of my typical usage.

Past upgrades: 16 GB to 40 GB memory, 512 GB to 1 TB storage.

Although there are definitely reasons to hate Windows, there are also reasons to like Windows 11: Linux GUI apps, Android apps, winget package manager and improved window tiling. It would be even better, when one wouldn’t need to toogle all the privacy and telemety settings first…

To post something again, here are three songs I’m currently really enjoying:

If you know songs that are in the same musical direction, feel free to share. 😀

To kick off my few days of Easter vacation, I took my freshly inspected and repaired pedelec (e-bike) with beautiful weather (20 degrees and sun) and drove a round on the “Ringgleis”, a bike path around my city. The total mileage has now also finally reached the 3000 km. That’s still not much over several years, but I still have my second, non-electric bike, with which I probably ride a lot more.

Just a small comparison to show that many websites are completely obese: My bachelor thesis in PDF format (which I handed in yesterday) has a size of 1.4 MB. It contains several images and 85 pages of text. With a high information density, this is a much smaller size than most websites have. And it would have been probably also possible to compress or optimize the PDF further.

Although Micropublish is an awesome Micropub editor, I just integrated a custom really basic editor into GoBlog to create, update and delete posts. I will also add image upload soon and then I don’t depend on any external software (except a web browser) for my blogging workflow any more.

Things I use

Because I like reading what things other people are using (sometimes I find interesting stuff that way) and inspired by uses.tech, I started creating a /uses page on my website. There are so many things I could write down there, but I started with hardware, domain registrars and selfhosted services. Next, I will start adding all the softwares I use (browsers, editors, IDEs, …).

Webmention update

Published on in 💬 Micro

I’m now receiving webmentions myself and also show them as “interactions” on this blog.

I implemented webmention receiving into my Hugo backend. Mentions are stored as a simple json file per webmention in the “data” folder of my blog and then I’m using some Hugo magic (data templates) to render them in my theme.

By doing it this way, I don’t need any JavaScript to show interactions and I don’t need to rely on a 3rd party service (I used webmention.io) for receiving anymore.
