⚠️ This entry is already over one year old. It may no longer be up to date. Opinions may have changed.

In the 2019 year review, I have already announced that in the future I want to do a monthly review. I want to reflect on what I have experienced and learned in the past month, what has occupied me and also what I am going to do for the next month. Of course I will not be able to write everything on a public blog, but I will try to be as open as possible. This should also help a little bit as a reminder. So I can look back later on what I did every month.

The month (and the year) started at a family friend’s house, where I spent New Year’s Eve with my family. When I was back home, the next day I went directly with my girlfriend for a weekend to Hamburg, where we did a boat tour of the harbour, visited the Miniaturwunderland and a zoo. It was a very nice weekend and it showed me what is important to me in life.

In order to be able to post photos on my blog, I started implementing a media endpoint at the beginning of the year, so that I could upload photos with a compatible app on my smartphone or via an online tool like Quill (which I also use to create new posts on my blog). This allows me to use my blog as an alternative to Instagram.

Speaking of my blog: While I was preparing for the only exam of this semester (about C++), I also procrastinated a bit and moved my German blog einGeek from blog.ein-geek.de to jlelse.blog/de, so that I only have to manage one blog, but can write posts in German or English or both languages. Maybe this will help to feed the German blog more again in the future.

After I (successfully) wrote the C++ exam, I had a few days left to finish a project for the university with a team in which we had to extend a content management system with additional features. After this project was also finished and handed in, the semester was over and I went back to the practical phase in the company where I am doing my dual study.

There I mainly concentrated on the preparation of the oral examination of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for my apprenticeship as an IT specialist for application development, which I mastered quite successfully yesterday and now I am officially finished with the apprenticeship part. The next career step is the Bachelor of Science Computer Science.

What else did I do in January? I spent a lot of time with my blog, or rather with the infrastructure and tools behind this blog. For example, I reworked the blog generation (my blog is created with Hugo, a static page generator, so that the pages load faster and don’t have to be regenerated on every call) and now I use the “Continous Integration” tool Drone.

At the beginning of February I have one week of vacation, but I still have to see what I’m doing during my vacation. I also plan to move my main room in the apartment to another room. And I finally want to do something with my Christmas present, a Raspberry Pi 4th generation and try out a few things.
