I wrote about Barinsta (formerly InstaGrabber) before. The creator has now received a cease and desist letter from Facebook. That’s probably the death for this project. Too bad, because maybe a few people were quite happy to use Instagram semi-privately through it. But the letter is just another hint to avoid Facebook services altogether.

I deleted my Instagram account

Today I finally deleted my Instagram account, or rather initiated a deletion for 30 days. Yesterday evening I started a data export, today I was able to download a ZIP file with all my data from Instagram, including all photos, likes, comments and stuff like that. So if I think of something important, I can still pull the data from the archive.

InstaGrabber

Although I no longer use Instagram, I still have an account there, and from time to time I like to see what people I know post there. To do that I always used the website in the browser. However, their website is not fast and has some bugs. Recently, I came across the alternative Instagram client “InstaGrabber”. While it sounds like a simple Instagram image downloader, it has a lot more functionality. It allows viewing your feed and stories of people you follow. To enable this, you can also login.

I just added a page that lists all the photos from this blog. It’s my alternative to using Instagram. Everyone can view my photos without the need to create an account, seeing advertisements and getting tracked. It was also a little challenge getting Hugo to filter and list all posts.
