⚠️ This entry is already over one year old. It may no longer be up to date. Opinions may have changed. When I wrote this post, I was only 20 years old!

I have just updated my Nextcloud install from Nextcloud 16 to Nextcloud 17. It’s a Docker-based installation on my Odroid HC2, which I use for a lot of self-hosted softwares. (Thanks to Docker I can forget about all things PHP!)

The update worked without problems. And my first subjective impression is, that it runs a bit faster than before. I really appreciate that Nextcloud improves the code with every release, so that it runs faster before, although often new features get added. I already had that feeling during all the past updates.

One thing I like about Nextcloud is, that it’s very customizable using apps from the Nextcloud app store. Not everyone needs all functionalities. If you just want to sync files, it’s fine. But if you want to also use it for calendars, contacts or messaging etc. you can install all the apps you need. You can even join the fediverse using your Nextcloud installation.

I think I use Nextcloud for almost two years now and I just want to give a thumbs up to everyone who has contributed to this wonderful project! 👍

It’s not only a great open and free software project, I also like the mission of the company behind the project. You can read my thoughts about it here.
