Thoughts of an IT expert

💭 Thoughts: 2020-11

Welcome to the Thoughts section of my blog. Thoughts are better kept on my blog than on Twitter or other online platforms.

Kilobytes clubs

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

It’s kind of funny how all those “.clubs” pop up, featuring lightweight sites: 1mb.club, 250kb.club, 520kb.club.

No analytics

Since moving my blog to my new CMS, I don’t count visits to this website anymore. Previously I used my own view counter named KISSS or kis3. It served me quite well. But to be honest, I don’t even miss the numbers, now that I can’t see them anymore.

Example domains

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Did you know that there are official example domains that can be used in documentation? example.com, example.net and example.org are all example domains of the IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, which are explicitly intended for use in documentation.1 In documentations or even in sample code I often stumbled over examples where no official sample domain was used, but one that can actually be registered. It is not recommended to use such a domain, because you can’t make sure that it will be registered once and maybe unintentionally data will end up with strangers.

I think I am a minimalist

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

I just watched a video by Matt D’Avella. His channel is not new to me, some time ago I already dealt with the topic of minimalism more deeply. But the video made me think about it again.

Things I noticed and a thank you!

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Since migrating my blog to the new CMS, I carefully watch the BunnyCDN logs to see if there are some errors or 404s somewhere. It’s looking good so far. Two days ago, I found an issue with the routing of paths that included an encoded character (such as ü or ä), but I found an easy workaround for this. Another thing I noticed by looking at the logs is the number of requests to the feeds on this website.

What should I do with my Raspberry Pi 4?

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Last year for Christmas I got a Raspberry Pi 4 (4 GB) as a kit with case etc. From the beginning I had no special application, if I had one I could have used my third generation Pi or one of several very old Pis from my father. Admittedly, I just wanted to see what such a small and inexpensive tinkering computer could do.

Another year has passed

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Another year has passed. Today I went to the cemetery after work and put a flower arrangement on the grave and lit a new candle. I wonder what you can think when you look down from heaven on the world and watch the current events from outside. But I am also a little bit relieved that the whole fate does not take place at this time, because then it would probably not have been possible to visit him in the hospital so often and everything would probably be even more painful.
