Welcome to the Thoughts section of my blog. Thoughts are better kept on my blog than on Twitter or other online platforms.

I miss running

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

I’ve talked about this a few times and posted some of the pictures OneDrive shows me every day. Photos taken on the same day, week or month in previous years. It always gives me a “throwback” and I think about the situation at the time I took the photo.

💭 While some people like to jump between blogging software all the time, or go back to Hugo from a custom one, I don’t really miss Hugo after switching to GoBlog in 2020, but enjoy having my own system quite a bit. Not that Hugo, WordPress, etc. are bad blogging systems, but I really enjoy being able to quickly code a fix without having to research docs, StackOverflow, or the source on GitHub. And when I have an idea for a new feature, it would often not be easy to implement in the existing systems.

Too lazy or too ambitious?

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Today was the second day of my “Hell Week”. Not because my week is so bad, it is after all holidays and time off, no, because I have arrived in the last week of the “Training Journey” at Freeletics. At the end of the Journey, the “coach” requires training every day, usually a so-called “god workout” in addition to warm-up and cool-down.

Why I now mute my watch

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

I am a user of a smartwatch. It is already the third smartwatch in my life (first the Sony SmartWatch 3, then the Samsung Galaxy Watch and now the Galaxy Watch 4) and I am actually quite satisfied with it. I always need an easy way to see the time, even when I’m riding my bike and can’t look at my smartphone (being on time is important to me!), plus it counts my steps and gives me the ability to view notifications right on my wrist so I don’t always have to get my smartphone out of my pocket first.

Reflecting on my work

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

I have been a full-time software developer for over a year now. I’ve since settled in well in the job, and I’m getting along better and better, even if the topics are sometimes still quite complex and difficult to understand, especially when it comes to “historically grown” things.

Telegram is now a super-app?

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

It seems that there is a new super-app: Telegram. Bots can now also use HTML5 and JavaScript and thus “replace websites”.

Why blog at all? (and indieblog.page)

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

What a coincidence: I was just thinking about why I blog at all, when I saw a post from Andreas Gohr in my feed reader with the announcement of indieblog.page. Cool site to discover blogs!

rathole – ngrok alternative

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Some time ago I tried to make my Nitter instance available on the Internet from home via Tailscale, Caddy and an own building block in between, but stopped it again a short time later because it didn’t work that well somehow. Today I found out about rathole, and what can I say? It works great and seems to be much faster than my previous solution!
