Thoughts of an IT expert

💭 Thoughts: XXXX-10

Welcome to the Thoughts section of my blog. Thoughts are better kept on my blog than on Twitter or other online platforms.

After all, debugging is still fun!

One reason I use an Android smartphone is that there are apps like Indigenous (a MicroPub-compatible app for posting from your phone to a MicroPub-compatible blog). And even if the app ever disappears from the store, there’s still the option to manually install the app. And if you need to, you can also develop your own apps without having to invest nearly $100 a year.

Telegram Ads

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

So Telegram now has ads. But unlike the ads from Google, Facebook or Apple, the ads are not personalized and much more privacy friendly. The ads simply consist of a maximum 160-character message with no external links and are displayed only in large public channels.

Lately I’ve been switching the playback speed for videos mostly to 1.25 or 1.5x. This way I manage to watch videos that I watch to learn something new in less time (and still understand everything). Especially with long videos this makes a difference. Is it only me who feels this way? I was really happy to find out that this feature is not only available on YouTube, but also in native video players in Firefox.

Wasted life time

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

This semester I have two lectures each week (not in total obviously), each one of those taking 3 hours from 4pm to 7:15pm on Mondays and Tuesdays. Both are given by a professor with a strong accent and a sometimes little bit strange view of the world. I think I never wasted that much time before in my life.

Firefox is getting client-side translations

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

According to some sources, Bergamot, a project focused on providing private client-side machine translations in a web browser - and got funding from the EU -, is making a great progress on getting integrated into Firefox. Kelly Davis from Mozilla published two (1, 2) demo videos on YouTube.

If this post is published on my blog…

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

If this post is published on my blog, I successfully developed a nice piece of software that allows me to publish from wherever I go to my blog using just a web browser. Even from my smartphone!
