Thoughts of an IT expert

💭 Thoughts: XXXX-XX-27

Welcome to the Thoughts section of my blog. Thoughts are better kept on my blog than on Twitter or other online platforms.

I miss running

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

I’ve talked about this a few times and posted some of the pictures OneDrive shows me every day. Photos taken on the same day, week or month in previous years. It always gives me a “throwback” and I think about the situation at the time I took the photo.

Bitwarden Unified

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Bitwarden (my favorite and recommended password manager) is offering a “new deployment option”. This new option combines all microservices into a single Docker container and doesn’t require 11 different containers anymore. And it supports PostgreSQL and MariaDB in addition to MS SQL.

Not enough tests

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

GoBlog’s test coverage is increasing (currently about 41%), but I keep being reminded there is nothing like enough or even too many tests. I still find some stupid bugs that aren’t covered by automatic tests.

Telegram Ads

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

So Telegram now has ads. But unlike the ads from Google, Facebook or Apple, the ads are not personalized and much more privacy friendly. The ads simply consist of a maximum 160-character message with no external links and are displayed only in large public channels.

Next to my Microsoft Surface Go with Windows on it, I often take my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1 with me, when I visit my family over the weekend. The ThinkPad let’s me do some development things on a Linux machine (with Ubuntu 20.04) during the long train trips (6 hours each direction). So I always try to get everything up-to-date before. It’s always amazing how fast it is to do this.

Less news

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

I just dropped a lot of feeds (mainly news) from my feed reader. I can’t scroll through about 900 new entries every day and then have 60 bookmarks that I spend all my time working through.
