Since I have YouTube Premium and log in to YouTube, YouTube is suggesting videos that seem to fit my interests a lot more (and it’s a little addictive again, but not as bad as when I was still studying).
Welcome to the Thoughts section of my blog. Thoughts are better kept on my blog than on Twitter or other online platforms.

Some years ago, I started reading the novel “The Circle” by Dave Eggers. I never finished reading it, but today I watched the movie. It has an important message about privacy, transparency and surveillance and shows that there’s a thin line in between. I can definitely recommend watching it, although I sometimes wasn’t impressed by the acting.
I have never been a big fan of VPN services. I think that many users have a wrong expectation about it, they think the VPN service would provide them anonymity and protect their data.
Colin Walker is trying to refactor his blogging software to make it available to others. Regarding whether anyone else will end up using it, he writes:
For those who haven’t noticed, I’m blogging more regularly in German again 🇩🇪, the last days even more often in German than in English. And this although there will be much less people reading these articles. Somehow it is much easier for me to write texts in my mother tongue. The words flow much better and it is much easier for me to express my thoughts. I will probably write more about my life and stuff like that on my German blog, while my English blog will be more about technical topics. Some things, like my monthly reviews (the next one will be this week) I will also publish in both languages.
I know, Cloudflare is often criticized in privacy groups and also I do not find everything good. I myself use Cloudflare actually only for two things, which do not concern the privacy of the visitors of my websites. DNS hosting and domain registration.
Because I don’t have enough side projects yet, I started programming my own static site generator, with the creative name GoBlog. I doubt it will replace my use of Hugo in the near future, but it is exciting to write a Go program that is designed for high speed. I get to know features that I have never used before. I also learn what to pay attention to when thousands of files have to be parsed and processed concurrently. Maybe I will never be able to use this project for anything useful, but side projects are mainly there to have fun or learn something useful.
I think I’m in some kind of bubble, but most of the people I instant message with use Telegram, because either they are computer science students too or because I convinced (or persuaded) them.
Of course I still use RSS. RSS offers me the possibility to consume news in the way I want. No algorithms that think they have to decide for me what interests me and what not. No algorithms that withhold news from me. Only the feeds I have subscribed to, all news from these feeds and no advertising between the news. I’m done when I’m done and don’t have to look at any more suggested articles. And I have the possibility to save articles for later reading. Miniflux is my favorite RSS reader. And I use the word RSS representatively for RSS, Atom and JSON Feed.
As you might have noticed, the frequency of new entries on this blog, or even the activity on my social media profiles, varies a lot. On some days I’m posting a lot. But then there are days with almost no activity at all.
