Drafts!

Published on in 💬 Micro

My blog software now allows me to create, edit and publish drafts. Now I don’t need to use Nextcloud Notes for posts I don’t want to publish immediately. 😀

I’m buying used things whenever possible as well, for example I bought a used bed and one of the keyboard / mouse pairs was also a used one. And my phone is a Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite, so also more on the budget side, but not that budget that I have to replace it next year. I try to buy cheap, but not too cheap that it’s just trash.

I think I am a minimalist

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

I just watched a video by Matt D’Avella. His channel is not new to me, some time ago I already dealt with the topic of minimalism more deeply. But the video made me think about it again.

Productive Sunday morning: I just integrated a full-text search into GoBlog. It’s using the SQLite FTS5 extension. I always find it impressive how many features SQLite has and what is possible with it!

Just another case of unfair competition

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

With Apple launching Fitness+, they launched just another service with an anti-competitive advantage. While they take almost 100% of what’s left after taxes etc., other services are forced to use In-App-Purchases of which Apple takes 30%. I don’t understand how some people defend Apple for this and think this behavior benefits them. Actually, it only leads to a decrease in the quality of non-Apple services, because they somehow have to try to compete with Apple, but get 30% less of the revenues. But in the end I don’t really care, I don’t buy any of Apple’s overpriced products with false privacy promises and platform lock-in anyway.

Now that most IndieWeb meetings are on video, maybe I should consider joining one as well. 🤔 I just have to overcome my shyness of speaking in English in front of other people. 🙈 And I need to implement RSVPs in my blog theme.

Costs to run this blog

Published on in ✍️ Posts

Kev Quirk and Horst Gutmann recently wrote about how much it cost them to run their blogs. So I thought, I could write about it too.

After reading this tutorial about how to mirror a Gitea repository to other Git hosting services like GitHub, I decided to follow a new strategy regarding my projects. I will use my main Gitea instance for all my public repositories and then mirror them on Codeberg and GitHub. I will also migrate projects from GitHub and Codeberg to my Gitea instance and replace the repos with mirrors. The first repo is this one with a mirror on Codeberg and a second mirror on GitHub.

Why I use tools like Docker and Flatpak

Published on in ✍️ Posts

I admit it, I am a big fan of pre-packaged software. Software that I simply set up by typing a single command or just adding a few lines to my existing configuration. I like simplicity and this kind of software makes things a lot easier and lets one focus on getting work done.

I admit it is the first time I am writing code that is almost 100% covered by unit tests. But it’s such a good feeling to have small, concise methods whose functionality you can rely on. Even before I have a running application, I know that what is already written will work. And unit testing with Go is really fun.
