New professional website

Published on in 💬 Micro

I’m always programming on my blogging software, so today I decided to do something different. With the help of ChatGPT, which wrote the basic HTML and CSS template, I created a new resume website, which is basically a copy of everything I put on my LinkedIn profile.

I am not looking for a new job, but I was thinking about making better use of my jlelse.com domain, which I have already renewed for many more years. And that seems like a good idea.

And it was actually quite fun to write some basic HTML and CSS and host the site files on Bunny.net. There I use Bunny Storage, Bunny DNS and of course Bunny CDN. 🐰

As for my job: I finally passed the probationary period. 😄

WordPress implemented SQLite support! 😱 (Not merged into Core yet, but you’re able to test it.)

Update: Just tried the Performance Lab plugin with SQLite support enabled on a test WordPress instance using Docker. Do I see it right, that the plugin isn’t using SQLite WAL? That would probably give the whole thing a big speed boost. At least that’s what I do with GoBlog and my website is fast, right? 🤓

Reflecting on my work

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

I have been a full-time software developer for over a year now. I’ve since settled in well in the job, and I’m getting along better and better, even if the topics are sometimes still quite complex and difficult to understand, especially when it comes to “historically grown” things.

Why I renamed my blogs

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

After a bit of consideration and a poll on Fosstodon, which shows a clear result even before it ends, I decided to rename this blog from “jlelse’s Blog – Thoughts, stories and ideas” to “Jan-Lukas Else – Thoughts of an IT expert”. Likewise, my German blog from “einGeek – Mehr als nur Internet und Programmieren” to “Jan-Lukas Else – Gedanken eines IT-Experten”.

Bahn2GPX

Published on in ✍️ Posts

For me, the best option to travel long distances within Germany is to take the train. I don’t have a car since July, but I have a BahnCard 50 for years, with which I get up to 50% discount on (unfortunately very expensive!) train tickets.

My home and code server now has 2 TB of SSD storage and 16 GB of RAM. While I’ll be using the storage for backups, etc., I’m not quite sure what I can use the 16 GB of RAM for yet. What else can I run besides Home Assistant, AdGuard Home, Drone and Tailscale? I still have my VPS running my websites, Miniflux, Bitwarden, Firefox Sync Server, RSS-Bridge, Firefly III, Nitter and Gitea. 🤔

New purposes for my Raspberry Pi 4

Last year I was wondering what I could do with my Raspberry Pi 4 (with 4 GB of RAM) that I got for Christmas the year before. I think I have now found a use for it.

Finally online again

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

After being cut off from DSL for about 30 hours, I finally have landline Internet again. On the one hand, it makes me angry that the provider didn’t solve this faster (the whole street with hundreds of residents was offline), but on the other hand, it also showed me my dependence on the Internet. I could not really do anything, not even watch TV, because that is also only possible via the Internet. After my vacation, I will take care of creating redundancy via LTE to be safe from such failures…
